A couple of photos from a 1996 bike trip. I was on a grey K75s, Paul on a red K1100rs, both well suited to hours of riding. We went from the bay area to Tonopah, a small mining town in southwestern Nevada where we always stayed at the preserved-in-olden-times Mizpah hotel.

When I was a little kid we moved from Texas to Tonopah. My father worked for a defense contractor that used the nearby desert as a testing (i.e. blowing up things) area. But my mother quickly grew to hate Tonopah so we cut our time there short and returned to Texas. If only they'd kept heading west.

Sierra Nevada foothills

I like the colouring in this shot, the light grass and the threatening sky. I bet we were anxious to make it to our next stop before the rain.

On to Tonopah

As much as we loved California, when we were on our bikes we were always happy to get away from that crowded state to the emptiness of Nevada.
