We enjoyed our stay in Venice. Our apartment was great. It was on the only street in Giudecca, a street that is waterside and lined with useful businesses. Cafes, a butcher, the post office and bank, a well-stocked grocer, a hardware store where I bought a couple of metal pitchers. But no t-shirts, no masks, no refrigerator magnets. Not only does Giudecca have the stuff you need, the view's not bad, sunny day or grey.
Garbage pickup is complex in Italian cities. In Venice you put out a bag, in the morning, and at the end of the block. Different days for different types of recycling or garbage (Monday is paper, Tuesday is plastic, etc.) . So the collectors are out every day. Reminded me of the daily garbage pickups in Merida, in the Yucatan.
