Come morning we walked to the Nice seafront where we boarded Corsica Ferries' inelegantly-named Mega Express 4. Our destination is Bastia, a port on the northeast coast of the island of Corsica. This ferry is one of many that connect the island to continental France. It's one of the faster crossings at six hours. Our return crossing, from Ajaccio to Toulon, will be an 11-hour overnight sailing.

As we approached Bastia this small boat raced up to our huge Mega Express 4 ferry. The pilot boat looked like it was going to hit us. Instead the small boat pulled along side, matched our speed, and then a pilot jumped from it onto our fast-moving ferry. A very cool move.
