You know how when you're off in a foreign land and you hire a guide and that guide includes in the tour some places to shop. And you figure the guide is getting paid to take you to those shops. Well our guide did this but it was fine. He made a little money and we got to tour a couple of local businesses that we'd otherwise not see.

One stop, at a vineyard, was ho hum, but the second, a pottery manufacturer called Ömürlü Ceramics in Avanos (reviewed here), was pretty cool. We got to watch them make the pottery, paint it, glaze it, and then end up with a showroom of tempting pieces.
