Yellowknife is in the news. I visited one winter. The town was snow covered, the lake, Great Slave Lake, was frozen over with ice thick enough to support a truck. Quite different from today's fires.
Great Slave Lake gets its name from the Slavey First Nations people who have long lived on its shores. It's a notable lake: second largest within Canadian borders, ninth deepest in the world, and tenth largest in the world.
