The atmospheric old town, Bari Vecchia, fills a small peninsula. It is land that comes between the new port to the west and the old port to the southeast. Crammed into this space are dozens of churches, many more shrines, a museum or two, and a castle that contains the footprints of an endless procession of conquerors and cultures. Which is of course applicable to much of Italy. So today we explored the neighborhood by visiting a castle, strolling the waterfront, and walking atop the old city wall. We will start with the castle.
Castello svevo di Bari (aka the castle) is about a five minute walk from our apartment, unless you get confused by the labyrinth of streets, in which case it will take considerably longer.
