I really like the Agung Rai Museum of Art.
This museum has a beautiful collection of modern art, much of it depicting traditional life in Bali.
It is part of a large complex featuring a hotel, an outdoor theater, rice paddies, a restaurant (we enjoyed lunch there) and extensive gardens.
I especially like the paintings by Walter Spies, a German artist who had the misfortune of being interned by the Russians in WW I and then again by the Dutch in WW II, in both cases for the sole reason that he carried a German passport.
While we walked the grounds I talked to a painter working on a large piece, I observed a sculptor carving wood, and in the background there were a couple of gamelan musicians playing.

My favorite piece, it really is spectacular in person, with a three-dimensional quality to it yet it's just oil on canvas. I took the photo guiltily as they prohibit photography inside the museum.

While exploring the Agung Rai Museum of Art we encountered some trees dangling these head-sized fruits. I asked someone what they were but I didn't catch the fruit's name but I did catch that it's bitter tasting.
